SparkFun's Qwiic Haptic Driver Offers Easy Vibration Feedback via I2C, PWM - Hackster.io

SparkFun has announced the launch of the Qwiic Haptic Driver, a breakout board that makes it easy to add haptic feedback to your Qwiic- and I2C-based projects — complete with built-in motor driver.

"This board is great for projects that require a physical indicator whenever an event is triggered," SparkFun explains of its latest creation. "Add it to your remote control to notify you when your robot has hit a wall. Combine it with an accelerometer to remind you to correct your posture. Or use it with a distance sensor to alert you when a ninja is walking up to you at your desk."

The compact board, which has two Qwiic connection ports for use with the company's in-house no-solder bus standard and unpopulated 2.54mm pin headers for breadboard use, is built around Dialog Semiconductor's DA7280 motor driver and a Jinlong G1040003D linear resonant actuator (LRA) coin-style vibration motor.

By default, the board is supplied with the compact vibration motor pre-soldered into place — using a smart cut-out in the PCB to reduce the overall height. For those looking to place the motor elsewhere in a project, a kit-form version is also available which provides the PCB, separate motor, and a pair of wires to be soldered between the motor and board to provide flexibility in positioning.

The SparkFun Qwiic Haptic Driver is now available at $14.95 before volume discounts, while the kit-form version is $15.95; the company has also published a tutorial on getting started with the board through I2C or PWM interfaces, and has released a supporting Arduino library.
